Pre-Budget Submission Toolkit (2026)

The federal budget is a key opportunity to advance Canada’s Autism Strategy from commitment to implementation.

Each year, the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance invites Canadians to participate in pre-budget consultations. Submissions help inform recommendations to the Minister of Finance and shape federal spending priorities.

Autism Alliance of Canada has developed a template to help members submit aligned, evidence-informed recommendations to the federal government. Members are encouraged to adapt the template to reflect their organization, region, and community priorities.

Step 1: Download a template

Use one of the following as your starting point:

  1. Autism Alliance of Canada – Working Draft (Recommended): Written Submission for the Pre-Budget Consultations in Advance of the Upcoming Federal Budget
  2. Blank federal template (required format)

Step 2: Make it your own

Personalize your submission to reflect your community context. Consider including:

  • Your organization’s name and contact information
  • Local or regional examples
  • Community needs or service gaps you are seeing
  • Any data, stories, or evidence from your work
  • Clear, actionable policy recommendations
  • Your organization’s specific priorities, where relevant

You may use the full template or adapt selected sections.

Tips:

  • Be concise and clear (maximum 2,000 words)
  • Focus on a few strong recommendations
  • Align your messaging with federal priorities and outcomes
  • Use evidence and examples to strengthen your case

Step 3: Submit your version

Once finalized, submit your pre-budget brief through the federal pre-budget consultation process.
