Integrating the Education System into Canada’s Autism Strategy
Currently, Canada’s Autism Strategy does not include policy actions for the education of autistic children, leaving a significant gap in the support system. The K-12 education system plays a crucial role where children are often screened, identified, and supported in their early years. Despite this, the reality is that many schools are not adequately equipped to meet the needs of autistic children, which can limit their potential to learn, succeed, and thrive in later life.

While education is delivered at the provincial and territorial level, national strategies can play a vital role in fostering consistency and equity across the country. This session will discuss the current educational landscape for autistic children and adolescents, and explore  how the federal government can play a pivotal role in enhancing Canada’s Autism Strategy by addressing the crucial intersections with education.

Participants will gain insights into how education can be prioritized in the current political landscape and actionable ideas for linking education with broader autism policy efforts.
