The Canadian Journal of Autism Equity (CJAE) is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to amplifying Autistic voices and advancing equity-focused research and practice. 

About You

You are a seasoned communications leader who can see both the big picture and the fine details. You have a strong track record of building and executing strategic communication plans that raise profile, engage community partners, and strengthen brand identity. You’re confident in managing people, projects, and priorities, and you excel in high-stakes communications such as media relations, advocacy campaigns, and executive messaging. You thrive on collaboration, inspire those around you, and are deeply committed to advancing inclusion and equity for Autistic people across Canada.

Position Overview:

The Communications and Marketing Manager will lead the development and implementation of inclusive, bilingual communications strategies that engage diverse audiences across Canada. This role leads the Alliance’s portfolio of branding and communications, amplifying national visibility for programs such as Ready, Willing and Able (RWA) and the Canadian Journal of Autism Equity (CJAE). The Manager drives media and stakeholder engagement, promotes key events like the Canadian Autism Leadership Summit (CALS), and ensures all messaging reflects the Alliance’s mission, advocacy priorities, and impact. 

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement inclusive, bilingual communications and marketing strategies that align with the Alliance’s mission, advocacy priorities, and national visibility goals.
  • Lead planning and scheduling of communications activities, including work-back schedules, promotional campaigns, and creative assets, ensuring brand consistency across all platforms.
  • Oversee creation and distribution of promotional, public relations, and briefing materials for internal teams and external partners, maintaining clear messaging and deadlines.
  • Provide organizational, creative, and promotional support for national initiatives, community-level strategies, and key events such as CALS.
  • Supervise and mentor the communications team, coordinate daily work assignments, and facilitate weekly team meetings to track progress and ensure high-quality outputs.

Media, Content, and Communications Oversight

  • Build and maintain strong media relationships, securing national coverage that elevates the Alliance’s profile and advances advocacy priorities.
  • Develop and implement media and content strategies that position the organization as a trusted national voice and amplify member and community perspectives.
  • Lead the creation of clear, compelling, and accessible communications (reports, policy briefs, newsletters, websites, and social content) that increase engagement and influence public awareness and policy.
  • Ensure brand consistency, editorial quality, and inclusive representation across all channels, using analytics and feedback to refine strategies for measurable impact

Stakeholder Engagement & Event Communications

  • Lead targeted communications that strengthen relationships with policymakers, partners,and the public, advancing the Alliance’s advocacy goals.
  • Oversee communications for major events, including CALS, ensuring cohesive messaging that maximizes visibility, participation, and impact

Analytics & Reporting

  • Monitor and evaluate media and digital performance to assess effectiveness and inform decision-making.
  • Use analytics and audience insights to refine communications strategies and maximise reach engagement, and influence. 
  • Provide clear, actionable reporting to leadership and the Board, linking communications activities to organizational outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in communications, marketing, or related roles (nonprofit or advocacy an asset)
  • Proven expertise in strategic planning, brand management, and media relations
  • Strong project management experience in a creative or communications environment
  • Bilingual in English and French
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada

Specialized Skills & Knowledge

  • Skilled at designing and leading communications campaigns that drive visibility and engagement
  • Advanced writing and editing abilities, adapting style and tone across speeches, media releases, policy briefs, newsletters and digital platforms
  • Proficient with digital tools (Google Ads, WordPress, Mailchimp, Canva, Airtable, Monday.com, Slack, Click UP, and all social media platforms) to optimize campaigns and outreach
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills to foster partnerships and collaboration
  • Ability to analyze performance data and translate insights into actionable strategy improvements
  • Committed to applying accessibility, diversity, and inclusion best practices in all communications
