Background

Accessibility ensures that everyone can fully participate in their environment. The Canadian Autism Leadership Summit (CALS) is committed to creating an inclusive space where all participants feel welcome and empowered to engage.

This page provides details on the accessibility measures in place for CALS2025, happening from April 28 to 30, 2025, at the Fairmont Château Laurier in Ottawa and via livestream. You’ll find information about the venue, the program, and available support.

If you have any questions or face any accessibility barriers, contact the CALS2025 Planning Team at summit@autismalliance.ca.

Accessibility at the Fairmont Château Laurier

At CALS2025, we are working with the Fairmont Château Laurier to ensure a smooth experience for all attendees and presenters. The venue is wheelchair-accessible, with ramps and elevators available throughout for easy navigation.

The CALS2025 Logistics Team has carefully planned the layout of all spaces, including the main room, breakout room, networking areas, eating areas, quiet space, and exhibitor hall. Clear signage will be placed at key locations to help attendees find their way. Spaces are designed to allow for easy movement, especially for wheelchair users, and a ramp will be available for stage access in the main room.

To create a comfortable environment, we ask attendees to avoid using scented products, as some people have sensitivities or allergies. We are also working with the Fairmont Château Laurier to minimize the use of perfumed products throughout the event.

Accessibility throughout the Summit

At CALS2025, ensuring the well-being and comfort of all attendees is a top priority. If you find yourself feeling uncomfortable at any point during the Summit or need assistance with anything, please don’t hesitate to reach out to a member of our team. You can identify us by our name tags, clearly marked with the name “Autism Alliance of Canada.”

If you ever feel overwhelmed or need a moment to recharge, please feel free to make use of our sensory-friendly space or to retreat in a space where you feel comfortable. At any point during the Summit, participants also have the option to listen in without actively participating in the discussions or networking sessions. Click here to view the Program, which will be continuously updated throughout the Summit.

Accessible options to engage at CALS

  • Livestream viewing:  CALS2025 offers a livestream option to increase access to the Summit for participants who prefer tuning in remotely. A special thanks to the Sinneave Family Foundation for their generous support in making the livestream option available.
  • Translation: CALS2025 will provide simultaneous English to French translation and French to English translation.
  • Captioning: Captioning will be available on both screens at the front of the main ballroom, as well as you can scan a QR code at your table to access captioning on your personal device.
  • Silent applause: We encourage participants to engage in silent clapping or waving through the duration of the Summit, to ensure a more inclusive environment for those with sensory sensitivities who may find loud noises overwhelming.
  • Sensory-friendly Space: CALS2025 will offer a Zen Den for those who may need to recharge, reflect, or simply take a quiet break from the Summit. Signs will be available to guide attendees to access the room easily. A special thank you to Autism Home Base for making this possible.
  • Quiet Viewing: The CALS2025 programming will feature a quiet viewing option for the Member Showcase (in-person), scheduled on Monday, April 28 from 5 – 6 PM EST. We encourage attendees to take advantage of this option to ensure a comfortable and accessible experience for all.
  • Networking: Networking is an important part of the Summit. Sessions are built into the program to help attendees connect and build relationships. At the reception desk, you’ll find a visual tool to show your comfort level with networking. There will also be dedicated spaces where Autistic participants can meet during breaks. Check the Program for the schedule of networking sessions.
