The Inclusive Workplaces Discussion Tool is intended to be used as a resource to support the accommodations process between the employer and Autistic employee to discuss feasible changes that can be made in the workplace environment to promote inclusion, acceptance, functioning and workplace potential of the employee.
While the term “accommodations” is standard language in most human resources settings, Autistic self-advocates have articulated a preference for shifting to language that emphasizes “inclusion” in the workplace. We have therefore titled this tool the Inclusive Workplaces Discussion Tool.
The tool includes two parts:
- A table that provides a list of recommended accommodations for a variety of accommodations needs the employee may have.
- Implementation considerations outlining ideas to make the accommodations process more feasible for the employer and equitable for all.
